Gyokuro: the pinnacle of shade-grown craftsmanship

Gyokuro: the pinnacle of shade-grown craftsmanship

Among Japan's most celebrated green teas, Gyokuro represents the pinnacle of shade-grown craftsmanship. Cultivated in tea gardens delicately covered for around 20 to 30 days before harvest, Gyokuro develops a distinctive fragrance known as ooika — the "covered aroma.

Gyokuro offers layers of deep, refined umami with a unique sweetness reminiscent of leafy greens and nori.

Do you like matcha?

Matcha and gyokuro are closely related Japanese green teas, and many matcha drinkers are naturally drawn to gyokuro because it expresses a familiar flavor profile in a different form.

For those who love the savory richness of matcha, gyokuro offers the same shaded-tea depth, yet presents it as a more delicate, aromatic, and layered infusion from the same beloved tea plant.

Gyokuro Karigane

Alongside our Gyokuro, we invite you to explore Gyokuro Karigane — a tea crafted from the stems, stalks, and twigs separated during Gyokuro production. While it shares the same shaded origin, this variation offers a refreshing twist.

This Karigane offers a rich sweetness and refined aroma, with delicate notes that are both fruity and floral.

We included the Karigane as a playful nod to Kukicha (stem tea), but with a deeper layer of umami and a softer sweetness. It's an invitation to rediscover balance and subtlety — two hallmarks of Japan's shade-grown tradition.
